This Week on WA

Another active week for members of WA.

Diane has posted a thought provoking blog leading into three main elements of a novel to give the reader the stuff that really matters. Well worth a read.

This week’s muses are up and shining thanks to Nicola. The first line prompts look extremely appetizing.

June's challenges and opportunities is peppered with places to send our work, some with deadlines of less than a month from now. As I continue with my judging of the Hysteria comp. (poetry category), I am more and more aware of the benefits of getting work submitted early rather than squeaking in at the last minute.

Chris N and I have both submitted three flashes each to Bath Flash Fiction Award. Winners will be announced at the FF Festival June 24/25. So they are very speedy.

Talking of super speed - Alyson got a first in Morgen Bailey's 100-worder comp with a marvellous tale called Superman and Laura got a third with her terrific 100-worder Speed Reading. I think you'll find them here. https://morgenbailey.wordpress.com/2017/06/09/results-of-morgens-100-word-competition-may-2017/#more-42745

Angela is over the moon (and so are all of us) at being accepted on Mslexia’s Online course. We are all looking forward to hearing all about it.

Nonsensically Challenged is now out and available for purchase. We do have some contributors. Lesley is behind the project. And if my memory serves me right - it all sprang from a Monday Muse last year...

Again our Ad Hoc submissions were accepted - five of us in this week's e-book.

I have now received my print copy of ArtAscent, the Orange themed issue. Both Bieke and I have poetry contributions. There is supposed to be a link to share the digital issue with friends and family - but I’m still looking for the right button!

In other news: many members have now shared their five-year vision on the thread Our Writing Vision. Strong brave intentions from strong brave writers.  Members also have work posted that looks for feedback - not always posted in the WIP thread. Some under the MM and some under the month’s challenges. So if, by the time you check the site, the homepage side bar has slipped to something else, it is worth checking the forums for newish posts. It is a shame to miss some of the cracking work being posted.

The poetry project is limping. Maybe because it is a monthly thing. It was hoped that poetry would become a discussion topic, not an assignment/writing project. Any ideas for livening it up would be appreciated.

And I almost forgot. My interview with Hysteria went live this week. https://www.hysteriauk.co.uk/2017/06/06/an-interview-with-sue-borgersen-poetry-category-judge-for-hysteria-2017/ is the link. It made me laugh when I read it. WA gets mentioned - as do our anthologies and magazines, plus Jo's All Will be Well is noted as 'the novel I am reading right now'.

I think that is it - please forgive me if I have forgotten anything.
