Getting going - Again
Category: Writing

Life has a habit of overtaking me in the inside lane, leaving me in catch-up mode, trying to break every speed limit I can to ensure I get to my destination. This weekend it was Destination Monday Blog.  I got here, if a little late.

The past few weeks have been very busy. I felt a bit under the weather at the beginning of the month, and pulled out of things to give myself a break, but lo! – life had other plans, and thought a kick up the proverbial might be a much better idea. And I must admit it was.

The kick came in the form of an SOS from a fellow writer, Richard Hardie, who wasn’t quite sure how to get his YA book, Leap of Faith, known out there, so I played at being an unofficial agent again, and secured an interview for him (not that it was hard. Maureen Vincent-Northam is always forthcoming), then helped him sort out a launch party on Facebook (very successful), and instructed him in a few other ways of getting his work known out there. Tell me, how come I cannot do the same for myself?

Myra King’s book, Cyber Rules, was then published, and I got in touch with Maureen again, securing another interview, then re-read the novel, having read it in draft before, so that I could write and post up the reviews on Amazon UK and US. She is hoping to raise $10.000 through royalties, for Medicins Sans Frontiére. The book sales are going well for both. Phew. I just about managed to keep up the speed, as I have to take a few pit stops along the way to work on my designer making business, to keep that going.

So, did I learn anything from my month of helping others get their books out there? Yes, that networking is a good thing, and that it is possible to generate interest and sales through the Internet. I just have to learn to do the same for myself.

Incidentally, I have also been working on The Box, as there is a possibility that another publisher would like to read it. And yes, again, it is who you know… As I said, networking is a good thing, a very good thing!

PS For those of you who may not know, The Box was born out of a Monday Muse prompt here on WA.
